Many Quest Scholars have experiences and histories that are unique among college applicants. Coming from such diverse backgrounds, it is often challenging for these students to tell their stories. The Quest staff works with students, both during and after the summer program, to help them accurately reflect their strengths on paper. During the summer, students will work with Quest staff and mentors to finalize topics for all of their college essays. Students are also matched with a Quest Essay Editor, to receive one-on-one attention throughout the application process.
Additional support is available for scholarship applications, and the process of applying for financial aid. Most Quest Scholars are from families with such low incomes that they qualify for full financial aid at most elite, private colleges and universities. The Quest staff helps students gain access to these resources, and makes sure it is possible for students to afford their educations. Most Quest Scholars and their families end up paying less than $3,000 a year to attend college (including tuition, room & board, travel, and books), and many pay nothing. Quest Scholars have access to staff members throughout the college admissions process and can consult with Quest counselors as they make their decision about which college to attend.
Additional support during the last year(s) of high school is explained on the following page.
